8th FEMIP Conference to tackle Mediterranean energy challenge

Workshop / Conference

Spain, Valencia,
From 05-10-2010 to 05-10-2010

The conference will be followed by the Mediterranean Solar Plan conference organised by the Spanish government also in Valencia on 11-12 May 2010 within the framework of the Spanish EU Presidency.
The one-day conference is aimed at government officials, local authorities, network operators, representatives of the private sector, fund managers and international financing institutions - those directly involved in renewable energy technology, energy efficiency, or energy infrastructure improvements.

It will take a pragmatic approach and provide practical examples of how to support renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy infrastructure policies and projects.  On this occasion, the EIB will announce the results of the FEMIP Trust Fund Study on the Mediterranean Solar Plan, will discuss how to integrate the Mediterranean's potentially large renewable capacity into the national and international grids, and present new instruments available for boosting energy efficiency.

The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches. Each year, a hundred operations associate the 27 countries of the European Union and 9 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia. www.invest-in-med.eu
