On September 13 and 14, 2010, a delegation composed of 13 cosmetics producers from Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan met with 43 French SMEs. This event took place at the Beyond Beauty Paris international fair, and generated more than 200 meetings. This is the third operation of the MED Cosmetics initiative, which aims at supporting the cosmetics sector in the three Med countries. The meetings were very much appreciated by the Med companies: for most of them it was the first time to attend a European fair, and meet with European counterparts. The immediate results were also very good as three agreements were signed on site or right after the event: One of these agreements was a partnership on research and formulation between a Syrian SME (Asia Pharmaceutical Industries) and a French company (Derma Developpement), for the transfer of know-how for a new production line of skincare (anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, and sunscreen) in addition to exchange of staff for training and consulting expertise between the two companies. Another agreement was about to be signed by Asia Pharmaceutical Industries (Syria) with Laboratoires CLEMASCIENCE (France). Finally, Syrian producer Noble Soap was in the negotiation phase with ECOCERT for the process needed to obtain an eco certificate for their products. Partners

The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches. Each year, a hundred operations associate the 27 countries of the European Union and 9 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia. www.invest-in-med.eu
