Franchise Thematic workshops

Operation supported by Invest in Med

Thematic FDI workshops

Egypt, Cairo,
From 05-13-2009 to 05-14-2009

A comparative study and interviews with relevant experts in individual countries showed different level of development of franchise, and especially a very low awareness about the potential on the franchise as a tool for business development.

The workshop has therefore been divided in two parts:  a delegation of Med and european businesswomen association participated in the Moroccan Franchise Fair, in order to connect with potential franchisors and franchisee, and widen the network of potential candidates. A two-day-training on Franchise was then organised in Cairo to address the following questions:

§  How to Empower the Role of Women in Franchise Business.

§  Franchising in the European Union

§  Overview on Franchising in Egypt.

§  Role of Women in Franchising in South East Asia

§  Financing of Franchising

§  Branding and IP protection

§  The legal issues of the franchise

This training gave an opportunity for selecting good practices to be promoted in other countries especially on the field of franchise financing. Participants from different countries (Jordan, Tunis, Slovenia etc.) had the possibility to see in work some of very positive practices, that could be used at their national level.

The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches. Each year, a hundred operations associate the 27 countries of the European Union and 9 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia. www.invest-in-med.eu
