Business Climate Development Strategy for Egypt Phase II

Workshop / Conference

Egypt, Le Caire,
From 03-08-2010 to 03-10-2010

In order to ensure that the policy priorities chosen for the Egyptian government respond to the actual needs of the business community while taking into account the specific nature of Egypt’s business climate, we value the input from public sector and private sector stakeholders into this process. During the three days of the OECD workshops we intend to debate the following topics:
Investment Policy and Promotion; Privatisation and Public-Private Partnerships; Business Law & Conflict Resolution; SME policy; Trade Policy and Facilitation; Human Capital and Access to Finance.

The purpose of these workshops are to:

  • discuss the recommendations identified in Phase I of the BCDS process;
  • analyse ways of strengthening the government’s policies in these areas;
  • establish short-term, medium-term and long-term policy objectives;
  • identify projects and schemes that will have a measurable impact on the local business climate.

Targets & objectives
The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches. Each year, a hundred operations associate the 27 countries of the European Union and 9 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia. www.invest-in-med.eu
