Defining terms of references for the creation of a Mediterranean Institute for International trade

Technical assistance missions

The Technical Assistance Mission, held from 01/04/10 to 31/03/11 in Tunis, Marseille, Barcelona and Tunisia were interested in the creation of a Mediterranean Institute for International Trade. On the initiative of the ASCAME and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tunis, a feasibility study was conducted to create a training organization for ICC Mediterranean. This mission was following the Phase 1 of the study. The second technical assistance mission was conducted on the basis of the results and findings from the first and aimed to define the project (positioning, provision of training , proposed services, partnerships, programs, facilities, budget and business model, potential funding sources, impact ...)

The following activities were carried out:

- Place the project in relation to other existing similar structures
- Determine the type of training and the training modules and the types of research to be undertaken by the IMCI
- Determine the types of partnerships to be established and the partners who will participate in the activity of the IMCI
- Identify needs human and material relating to the activity of the IMCI
- Establish the budget and the economic model
- Identify potential funding sources
- Study the economic, social and strategic project.
- Conduct a validation workshop with potential project partners

The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches. Each year, a hundred operations associate the 27 countries of the European Union and 9 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia. www.invest-in-med.eu
