Diagnosis of the situation in the Mediterranean



Operation supported by Invest in Med

Technical assistance missions

This operation aimed to identify in e-business services managed by the MED partners (and other local BSOs) and to analyze the potential of MED company websites.
The operation was composed of 3 missions: The first mission was to Damascus, Syria from 17 to 18 May, in the expert (accompanied by an expert from ICC Syria and SEBC) met with the deputy minister of telecommunication, president of The Syrian Computer Society, CEOs' of Syrian Companies and ISPs. Also during the first day a focus group was held for two hours gathering all the stakeholders of Digital Marketing to get an idea about the situation in Syria. Finally in Damascus Chamber of Commerce the expert present small words on the importance of digital marketing and IT tools to members of the chamber during the introductory lecture of Enterprise Europe Network Syria organised by SEBC (see the attached agenda of the mission and the supportive documents).
The second mission was to Lebanon, that the expert left to Beirut on 19 and had two working days there that includes official and technical visits to the Chamber of Beirut, Ministry of telecommunication, state planning and modernization commission, IT Associations, consultancy and firms(see the attached agenda of the mission and the supportive documents).
Finally the mission to Casablanca, Morocco was from 30/6 to 1/7. The expert also met with representatives of Government, BSOs, associations, Companies and consultants. Also on 30/6 a 3-hour focus group was held of 34 participants (see the attached agenda of the mission and the supportive documents).
Basing on these three mission the expert produced a unique report on the status of digital marketing of Mediterranean Companies (for instance in the three countries).

The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches.
