The entrepreneurs attending the first French-Maghrebi ICT, Telecom & Multimedia Business Meetings « e-3M Alger’2009 » in Algiers, have come back with their briefcase full of contracts.
Marseille, May 14th, 2009 More than 250 actors in digital and telecom fields, have gathered in Algiers on April 26th & 27th, answering the invitation of Marseille Innovation, the Algerian “Ministère de l’Aménagement du Territoire, de l’Environnement et du Tourisme” and the “Agence Nationale de Promotion et développement des parcs Technologiques” (ANPT) of Algeria. For two days, 12 French companies, 5 Moroccan companies and 5 Tunisian companies have met their Algerian counterparts (some of which were Algerie Telecom, Arab Bank, EEPAD, etc…), during BtoB meetings (at least 10 per company) set up by the organizers. “This first stage of the year has fulfilled its goals for the participating companies, which have concluded partnerships or started negotiations with major Algerian ICT actors, and for the 300 visitors who have come to visit the fair and participated in the workshops”, comments Lotfi Hamdi, Manager of Medinnov Ingénierie. The “Road Show e-3M 2009” is a part of the “Invest In Med” European programme, and got UbiFrance’s “Label France”. This first stage of the Road Show got a large media exposure in Algerian newspapers, radio and television. For the first day, around thirty articles were published in several Algerian newspapers, underlining the aspect of cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Many speakers have led the workshops organized during the business meetings about the ICT economic context in Algeria and around the Mediterranean Sea: the “Aménagement du Territoire, de l’Environnement et du Tourisme” Minister, Cherif Rahmani, the General Director of the ANPT, Sid Ahmed Karcouche, the ONUDI Representative in Algeria, Mahammed Dionne, and the deputy chief of the ‘Mission Economique de l’Ambassade de France à Alger”, Patrick Gay. The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches. Each year, a hundred operations associate the 27 countries of the European Union and 9 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia. www.invest-in-med.eu
