For'UM on project financing of the UfM

The French-Egyptian copresidency of the Union for the Mediterranean will organize an event focused on project financing,
in Marseille - Palais de la Bourse.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Finances, various institutions (EIB, AFD, Caisse des dépôts) or investors (Euromed Capital Management, French-speaking Business forum, Inframed...), For-UM, will be organized in the context of the French-Egyptian co-presidency of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), with a view to familiarize financiers, development banks, private sector stakeholders and funds with UfM's progress since its launch in Paris on July, 13, 2008.

It aims to mobilize public and private stakeholders in favor of the momentum created by UfM, and for specific projects currently at different phases of implementation, and give a general overview of the financial challenges ahead. For'UM will be open to the participation of officials from UfM 43 countries, in particular delegations from Ministries in charge of finances, investment and budget, and will present the latest developments pertaining to the institutional arrangements and the establishment of the secretariat, which was officially announced in Barcelona on March, 4, 2010. It will also be an opportunity to exchange on how to bring UfM forward in the future.
At For-UM, which will be organized in collaboration with the Marseille Provence Chamber of Commerce and Industry, participants will also learn the main outcomes and conclusions of key meetings held within the framework of UfM since July, 2008 namely the Alexandria International Informal Meeting on Financing Infrastructure Project in the Euro-Med region held on April, 30, 2009 and the Paris first UfM Inter-Ministerial Conference on Sustainable Development Projects held on June, 25, 2009, in addition to outcomes of sectoral UfM/Euro-Med Inter-Ministerial Meetings.
For'UM will be organized around three main plenary sessions dedicated to the conditions of investment and project financing in the Mediterranean zone, and several thematic working groups focusing on concrete study cases linked to the six priorities of the UfM. In addition, countries will be able to organize stands to communicate their projects to partners from the private sector and the financial sector.

Practical details

The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches. Each year, a hundred operations associate the 27 countries of the European Union and 9 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia. www.invest-in-med.eu
