From 06-25-2009 to 06-26-2009

The first capacity building seminar for economic development managers from Mashreq, has been organised in Cairo by Eurochambers, with recommendations on how to address problems identified during the previously conducted audits. The whole initiative includes detailed assessments of the performance of the organisations, seminars on how to address possible weaknesses and networking opportunities. this opération is organised within the framework of the In Med Training Forum, an initiative aiming at upgrading Southern Mediterranean business representative organisations (BROs).

Objectives of the seminar
- Presenting latest development, know-how and best practices from the European side in core fields BRO managers are confronted with during their daily work
- Generating new ideas and strengthen the capacity of the managers to address weaknesses within their organisation
- Stimulating open discussion among participants and creating links between the participating organisations for further exchanges and joint projects

Results
Due to the high quality of the presentations, the ability of the course leaders to generate discussions and the genuine interest of the participants, all objectives were fulfilled. The overall atmosphere of the seminar was very open and focused on exchanging and learning from each other.

Most participants were very pleased with the seminar which was well organised. Participants assured that they would disseminate the course material among their colleagues and use the lessons learnt to review their strategy and positioning. Several of them asked for more seminars or even making this exchange of best practices an annual event for all Med BROs.

The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches. Each year, a hundred operations associate the 27 countries of the European Union and 9 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia. www.invest-in-med.eu
