Driven by the objective to promote the environmental sustainability in the tourism industry of Mediterranean Area, BEST MED project sets up two different strategies to support the awareness of the tourism-hotel operators to the assets of sustainable tourism and to strength the matching of the Supply and Demand in the field of the sustainable products. A network of Chambers of Commerce and  other organizations representing SMEs (European and MED) will work to sensitize all the actors of the chain either on local or on national level and to organize three businesses meetings between the suppliers of the eco-sustainable services coming from MED and EU countries and the operators of the tourism and hotel industry. It will be an occasion to create new partnerships and commercial relations. The project will be an important lever in development of a sustainable tourism offer and to drive  other cross sectors of activities related to new technologies of environmental sustainability.

The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches. Each year, a hundred operations associate the 27 countries of the European Union and 9 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia. www.invest-in-med.eu
