Introduction mission to the PLATO method

Operation supported by Invest in Med

Short term individual staff exchange

Egypt, Le Caire et Alexandrie,
From 03-23-2009 to 03-27-2009

The Belgian Plato project coordinator have carried out a mission to Cairo and Alexandria (Egypt) from March 22 to 27, 2009 to meet with the partners of the project and other interested structures such as the Federation of Egyptian Industries, the IMC, the General Authority for investment and Free Zones (GAFI) and the Delegation of the European Commission in Egypt.

This mission enabled to better understand the economic situation of Egypt and to adapt the mentoring method of "Plato" to the local situation. The staff of the Belgium CCI has concluded that the best way to implement the Plato concept in Egypt is to bring together groups of large companies ("mentor” companies) with some of their suppliers (the members of Plato). During monthly sessions, the members of Plato will have the opportunity to professionalise their businesses and improve their manufacturing process under the guidance of the mentor companies. Target areas were also identified such as the automotive, agriculture, consumer goods and renewable energy.

Plato staff exchange (Final)

The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches. Each year, a hundred operations associate the 27 countries of the European Union and 9 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia. www.invest-in-med.eu
