The Mediterranean Investment Forum Med Invest 2009 taking place in Beirut, in February 20/21, 2009. More than 500 business leaders from Europe and the Mediterranean, 200 Gulf personalities and representatives of investment funds will attend the Forum; as well as the Ministers of Economy and Trade, the Ministers of Industry and the Governors of Central Banks in the South Mediterranean region. BtoB meeting as well as workshops on investment, financing and technologies will be held in this framework. Med Invest 2009 proposes to provide the three following ingredients: Investment needs confidence: Projects of emerging countries, technology: Technology of the European Union and finance: Financing of the Gulf. Three organizations are competing for the success of that event: BusinessMed, BusinessEurope and Al-Iktissad Wal-A’amal. The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches. Each year, a hundred operations associate the 27 countries of the European Union and 9 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia. www.invest-in-med.eu
