Seminar between agrifood poles (1)

Operation supported by Invest in Med

Workshop

Italy, Parme,
From 07-07-2009 to 07-08-2009

The seminar, organised by the Italian Chamber of Commerce for France in Marseille, was held in Parma on 7 and 8 July 2009 and gathered 18 participants. This first meeting scheduled allowed three structures, namely : the European Center for Innovation Fruits and Vegetables of Avignon (PEIFL), the Agri-food pole of Bizerte and the Technopark of Parma to meet for the first time, to compare their skills and find opportunities of collaborations.
During this first meeting, three possible cooperations were discussed:

1) between the PEIFL and Bizerte:

-       access to monitoring tools, developed by the PEIFLand create a network between the PEIFL and  Packtec– INRAT– INAT

-       Host business delegation, technical centers and the laboratories coming from Bizerte in the PEIFL.

-       Joint training with the University of Avignon and Biozerte on major thematics (physiology and conservation of vegetables, packaging, vegetable extraction  and ingredients)

2) between Bizerte, SSICA and the PEIFL:   Participation of Bizerte in a project led by SSICA on the valorisation of the prickly pear (juice, jams, oils and others)

3) between the PEIFL, Bizerte, the University of Parma and SSICA: exchange of students and researchers in the field of packaging.
This collaboration could be extended  to the possibility of associating the PEIFL to the seminar "BIOPOLPACK" (1st National Congress on biodegradable polymer packaging), organized in 2010 in Parma.

Other suggestions were made by experts of each structure, including the one to submit to the European Commission a project on environmental issues (LCA, CO2 balance).

Program (Previsional)

The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches. Each year, a hundred operations associate the 27 countries of the European Union and 9 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia. www.invest-in-med.eu
