In line with the planning of the Plato Egypt initiative, 6 major Egyptian companies were selected to act as mentors and animate monthly exchange sessions with Egyptian SMEs. As a first step, all mentors were invited to Belgium to attend a teambuilding session together with other mentors from various countries during which they get to know each other and learn the Plato concept. During their stay, technical visits and more than 70 B2B meetings have been organised, in addition to learning about the Plato methodology: they could therefore network and create partnerships with European and Eastern European companies (attending the training). The companies selected to attend the training were the following: UL-Fine Tea Co (Ahmed Kadous), Unilever Mashreq (Khaled Fayed), Sekem Group (Kadria Abdel-Motaal), BMW Egypt (Hanan Sakr), Bavarian Auto Group (Zakaria Elnaggar). The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches. Each year, a hundred operations associate the 27 countries of the European Union and 9 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia. www.invest-in-med.eu
