Over 20 carefully selected pro-active field networks from 10 southern Mediterranean partner countries (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian authority, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey) are onboard for the sourcing of the best start-ups. They are the pillars of MedVentures coordinating actions with their local and international partners networks (science clusters, entrepreneurs networks, incubators, diaspora networks).

Today, more than 40 projects have already been proposed. A summary of the 100 best start-ups projects and their need for partnerships will be posted on the Medventures website from July 20.

The selection of the 10 best start-ups in the Mediterranean (1 per country) will be done by a jury gathering today 8 high level international investors business and innovation networks. The selection will take place during a MedVentures workshop in the framework of the Europe Innova conference in Liege (Belgium) on Wednesday, October 27, 2010.

The finals (selection of the top 3 start-ups) and the business forum will be held on Friday, December 3, 2010 in Marseille, during the Mediterranean Economic Week. During this forum, testimonials of the best MedVentures entrepreneurs, case studies of smart Euro-Med cooperations, offers for partnerships, one to one business meetings, and speed networking sessions on co-investments, and cross-border support to entrepreneurs will be organised.

€90,000 of sponsorship have already been secured for the best 3 start-ups by our PLATINUM sponsors: European Business Innovation Centre Network (EBN), EPA Euro-Mediterranée & Publicis. 5 GOLD sponsors will also help us organise the business forum on December 3: Arab Science and Technology Foundation, The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Marseille-Provence (CCIMP), Invest in France, the city of Marseille, and OSEO.

Several strategic partners are already engaged to help us building a long-term initiative: first the European Commission who is funding the launch of MedVentures through the Invest in Med programme, and also the European Investment Bank and OECD.

To connect with our start-ups and partners, register to the business forum held on December 3, or for more information, check out our website: www.medventures.biz

The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches. Each year, a hundred operations associate the 27 countries of the European Union and 9 Mediterranean partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia. www.invest-in-med.eu
