The Invest in Med programme has just launched Link in Med, a match making directory for Mediterranean enterprises willing to go international. Opened to any company as well as to SME supporting organisations, this new service allow to publish partnerships offers and demands, to get direct contact with other players from specific business sectors and with business facilitators from north and south Mediterranean countries. This directory completes a range of tools developed by Invest in Med to ease business and investment in the region: a business news watch, an investment projects observatory and a number of guidebooks and studies to facilitate the access to the Southern markets. From Solar energy to port logistics: Invest launches 11 new regional initiatives

11 leaders of initiatives contributing to the economic development of the Mediterranean countries have launched their projects during a public session organised on 2 and 3 March 2010 in Marseille. Involving more than 50 business and economic development organisations from 7 European and 9 Mediterranean countries, these initiatives are all contributing to raise the attractiveness of the Mediterranean region by developing a shared expertise and concrete partnerships between Euro-Mediterranean enterprises. Strategic sectors such as solar energy, eco-construction, e-commerce and logistics are targeted. The programme has supported 49 projects since October 2008 including this new selection. Women entrepreneurs: the Mediterranean is yours!

24 and 25 February 2010 Businessmed gathered more than 160 women entrepreneurs of 13 Mediterranean countries for the workshop 'Create new opportunities for Women entrepreneurs in the Mediterranean, with a focus on the financing of SMEs. More than 90 business meetings were organised. [Read+]

Batimed meetings in Poland: energy in the construction sector!

On 23-26 February 2010 in Warsaw and Katowice by the Polish Chamber of Commerce, the Batimed workshops and BtoB welcomed more than 70 companies from Poland, Morocco and Algeria in the building sector, as well as representatives of the European Commission and the Polish government. Med Academy: Invest in Med - World Bank seminar held in Cairo

ANIMA and the World Bank organised in Cairo on 9-11 February 2010 a capacity building seminar dedicated to the facilitation of foreign direct investments. Gathering around 40 executives of Mediterranean Investment Promotion Agencies and CCIs, the seminar leveraged the results of 'The Global Investment Promotion Benchmarking 2009' in order to identify regional weaknesses and learn from the best performers from the Euromed area. Technical textile: towards a Euro-mediterranean prototyping platform

More than 40 representatives of competitiveness clusters, economic development agencies, chambers of commerce, R&D centers, from Tunis, Morocco, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Europe gathered in Tunis in the framework of the TEXTECH Med initiative, on 3-5 March 2010. These actors are working together on the design and implementation of a Euro Mediterranean platform aiming at mutualising technical services (prototyping, certification) as well as support services (internationalisation, exports, business development). Focus on building insulation in the Maghreb countries

During the BATIMATEC international fair (2-7 May 2010) in Algiers, the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI) will organise on the 6th May business meetings and a workshop on building insulation, in partnership with GTZ, UTICA, and CGEM. Med Zones workshop: a sustainable management of Mediterranean industrial parks

About thirty planners, managers and coordinators of economic activity parks took part in the Med Zones workshops in Casablanca on 22-24 February 2010. Hosted at the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Morocco, this workshop identified the main issues in setting up a concrete implementation of sustainable development in industrial parks, considering the issues of services to companies, real estate density and water and energy control. MedDiaspora, the first Mediterranean economic expatriates directory: more than 150 networks identified!

The MedDiaspora project aims to identify entrepreneurs, researchers, high level executives’ investors, living abroad, to understand their international business projects and to list the supporting networks and support services in their home countries. So far, more than 150 networks of expatriates originating from Med countries have been identified and involved. A Med Tracking - Med Port partnership

During the launching workshop of the new initiatives (2-3 March 2010) in Marseille, many contacts have been established between the Med-Tracking community gathering actors in the transport of containers accross the Mediterranean, and representatives of the Med Ports initiative, which plans to link up organisations supporting enterprises with SMEs operating in logistics. The industrial partnership methodology soon introduced in Egypt

On 24-28 March 2010, ADECI will be in Cairo and Alexandria to introduce the industrial partnership methodology to Egyptian partners. Their method promotes a specific approach of business partnerships by encouraging contact between people practicing the same job in different countries and contexts. Already well-known in the Maghreb region,it will be introduced in Egypt for the first time. The technical assistance mission will facilitate the creation of a catalogue of partnership offers from European and Mediterranean SMEs. Lebanon should shortly join the initiative. [Read+]

A new study on Tunisian Diaspora in France and Germany to be released in March

The first results of a study carried out by GTZ and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology of Germany on the Tunisian Diaspora will be available by March 2010. The study will focus on profiles and expectations from Tunisian expatriates in France and Germany, and propose recommendations to the Tunisian government and local support networks. [Read+]

Réseau Entreprendre transfers its young entrepreneurs coaching methods in Tunisia and Lebanon

The creation of a sustainable organisation for providing free loans and coaching services to young entrepreneurs in Tunisia is on its way, in the framework of the Med Young Entrepreneurs Coaching network initiative. The director of the future association Réseau Entreprendre Tunis has been appointed in January, and its integration to the network took place in Marseille in January, through trainings and activities with the local Réseau Entreprendre PACA. Meanwhile, another training took place in Lebanon where two coaches transferred their competences to 20 business angels, CEOs and bankers gathered by Bader. [Read+]

The first mission will be conducted in Egypt and will present the Industrial Partnership method as an effective means of contact between firms from both sides of the Mediterranean. This mission will also be opportunity to train egyptian partners on the various working tools used to identify and match companies of the two rims.

The Invest in Med programme aims at developing sustainable trade relationships, investments and enterprise partnerships between the two rims of the Mediterranean. Funded at 75% by the European Union over the 2008-2011 period, it is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, which associates economic development organisations (ANIMA, leader of the programme), CCIs (ASCAME, EUROCHAMBRES), and business federations (BUSINESSMED). The members of these networks, as well as their special partners (UNIDO, GTZ, EPA Euroméditerranée, World Bank, etc.), gather a thousand of economic actors - mobilised through pilot initiatives centered on key Mediterranean promising niches.
